Thanksgiving.
I have been wanting to write a long post for days, but feel
the time with people usurps my time with my computer and reflection. I hope more is to come because I had a few
really great thoughts. This morning at
church, I was able to think about Thanksgiving and its marker in the year to
reflect. Every year at the end of the
service, they have an open mike for people who want to share with the
congregation what they are thankful for.
The people who shared their thankfulness are people who have lost loved
ones recently—some to cancer, some to age, some to situations more tragic than
I want to reflect on. I was encouraged
and reminded that as a Christian we must “give thanks in all circumstances” (1
Thessalonians 5:18).
For me, I am thankful that I got to be at the service again
this year even though I live in Thailand and only had 4 days at home. I am thankful for so many things this year, but since a list like that might go on for pages, I thought I would keep it to the acrostic THANKS
(some are directly from the service this morning):
T. Trade. Trials.
Time. Travel. Thailand.
H. Health. Home. Holy Spirit. Hope.
A. America. Asia.
N. Nations. November.
K. Kinsmen. Kindness.
S. Spotlight English.
Social Media. Sleep. Safety. Shopping. Silence. Scripture. Savior. Salvation.
And then I got this sweet picture from one of my clubs. What a
wonderful world. I’m so thankful that I
have friends in every continent and that I am at a place in life where I get to
enjoy the surprises of culture, language, food and friendships. Happy Thanksgiving.
